PT #1398 is a performance for camera that explores sadomasochistic and body modification practices, specifically fisting, within the context of kinky activities. Conceptually, the video examines the role of medical institutions in controlling the body and constructing sexual perversions. The hospital setting serves as a metaphor for a disciplinary space where the human body is manipulated and transformed through practices that expose it in extreme ways, culminating in the creation of sexual perversion—represented here by fisting.
The video also addresses the impact of institutional power on works of art involving BDSM practices. In the UK, it is illegal to possess material depicting sadomasochistic and kinky activities under Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, known as the Extreme Pornography Act. Artists may face legal consequences if they cannot demonstrate that such material is part of an artistic work. To navigate this issue, I have included a statement at both the beginning and the end of the video, asserting that the acts performed are integral to the creation of the artwork. This statement should not be viewed as separate from the video but as an essential component of it.
Additionally, the video features aftercare at its conclusion, serving as a counterpoint to the sensationalist view often associated with explicit BDSM material.
